Fundão - Wines with History

Wines with an ancient history.

This wine tourism experience begins in Castelo Novo, a charming historic village in Beira Interior, classified by the World Tourism Organisation as one of the best villages in the world.
The ancient Roman wine press is one of the historic landmarks that testify to the village's millenary past. Take the opportunity to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the Ribeira de Alpreade or go for a walk along its paths. Visit the Torre de Menagem and be dazzled by the views of Castelo Novo and the Serra da Gardunha.

Close to the village you'll find the Alminhas Viewpoint, a must for lovers of breathtaking views, from where you can see the surrounding Serra da Gardunha and the river.

Head towards Alpedrinha and you'll be dazzled by the mountain scenery along the way. This mountain village is known for the Palácio do Picadeiro, an imposing 18th century building, and for its historic fountains and wells, such as the Chafariz D. João V.
Continue to Alcongosta, famous for its cherry production. If you visit at the right time, you'll be able to see the cherry trees in blossom or laden with fruit.
In the mountain village of Alcaide, discover the House of the Gardunha Mushroom - a space dedicated to the fascinating world of mushrooms.
Walk through stunning landscapes, appreciate the unique biodiversity and enjoy the panoramic views that this region has to offer.

At the end of your visit, take the opportunity to visit Adega Cooperativa do Fundão or Quinta dos Currais, two renowned producers of Beira Interior wines.
